May 1 , 2008 - When the American Heart Association (AHA) asked Americans to Go Red for Women in February, the Warrendale Branch responded and raised nearly $500 to help create awareness of heart disease in women.

Now, their local AHA has recognized them for their hard work.

On April 10, Barbara Roth, AHA division director for the Butler, Marshall and Warrendale area, presented the office with a certificate, thanking the Employees for their support.

“We had about 20 companies throughout our area participate in Go Red for Women Day and the Warrendale Erie Insurance office was one of our top five fundraisers,” Roth said. “They really helped to raise awareness of heart disease and deserved to be recognized for their efforts.”

ERIE’s Healthy Directions wellness program encouraged Employees at all ERIE offices to take part in Go Red for Women and many responded. On Feb. 1, Harrisburg, Indianapolis, Peoria, Rochester, Silver Spring and the Home Office also held Go Red for Women events in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the American Heart Association.

“Participating in initiatives like Go Red is a great way for Employees to learn about heart health and living healthier lives,” said ERIE's Wellness Management Specialist MaryAnn Marchant."They're also supporting a noteworthy cause."

Becky Gruber, claims supervisor, helped organize the fundraising efforts at Warrrendale Branch. “This was our first year participating in Go Red for Women Day so we were thrilled to be recognized by the AHA,” Gruber said. “Supporting the AHA through activities like this not only raises awareness about heart disease in women but also helps fund research for heart related problems in men and women.”

“The Employees at Erie Insurance really had fun with this and that’s important,” Roth added. “We want people not only to spread the word about heart disease but to have a good time while doing it. These Employees really went above and beyond what we expected of a first year participant.”

The Warrendale Branch also has two teams planning to participate in the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk this fall. They hope to have as much success in raising funds and awareness as they did with Go Red for Women.
