Students at North Wood High School in Nappanee, Ind., want to put a stop to the fatalities and serious injuries that have resulted from car crashes in their community the past several years. “It is our goal through the Lookin’ Out program to not only bring attention to the dangers of driving, but to hit these issues head on,” reads the North Wood Lookin’ Out grant application completed by members of the school’s Lookin’ Out club. Seat belt checks, signs, giveaways, announcements, a DUI simulator and even a mock crash involving several students that have survived serious accidents, are among the activities planned at NWHS to raise awareness of safe driving throughout the coming year. And because the program is created “by teens, for teens” all of North Wood’s activities were selected by the student committee. North Wood, along with dozens of other schools, is benefiting from grant funds made available from Erie Insurance to help combat the number one killer of teenagers: traffic crashes. High schools interested in learning more about Lookin’ Out can read the eligibility requirements, download Getting Started materials, or contact your nearest Erie Insurance agent and tell them you want to know more about Lookin’ Out. Schools re-enrolling in the program can complete the 2007-08 grant application |
